Unaccusativity Phenomena in Hungarian

The book offers a survey of unaccusativity phenomena in Hungarian, a significant, yet ignored property of this language.

It analyses the characteristics of Hungarian adverbial participles (verbal adverbials), adjectival participles and causative verbs. These morphosyntactic phenomena share a common property: they are sensitive to the unergative-unaccusative-transitive tripartition of verbs. Consequently the derivation of adverbial and adjectival participles as well as causatives is related to the verb's argument structure. For some reason though, this element is completely ignored by descriptive Hungarian grammars and linguists, therefore the author¢s goal is to show that this tripartition should be introduced (or re-introduced) into Hungarian linguistics.
